Activities with Schools
Improving young peoples’ understanding of science, engineering and technology
is one of the most important purposes of the Society. We aim to encourage school pupils to
embark on further and higher education that will equip them for a science-based career.
Each of the 11 schools in corporate membership has appointed a representative, who is a full
member of the Society, receives a copy of the Meetings Programme and Society mailings and is
responsible within the School for the organisation of joint events. Students can attend Society
meetings without charge. The Society provides certificates of attendance to include in their
national record of achievement.
The flagship event, the annual Erasmus
Darwin Memorial Lecture, is designed for schools as well as
adults, and many of the audience of up to 500 come from the
schools in corporate membership.
The Society has an Education fund, the income from which is dedicated to supporting young
peoples’ science and technology education projects. |
