David Rooney is a historian of technology. Originally trained as a physicist, and the son of a clockmaker, he studied history while working at the Science Museum, London, where he was a co-curator of the major millennium gallery, Making the Modern World (2000). He went on to co-curate the Royal Observatory’s Time Galleries (2006), a suite of permanent exhibitions which were awarded the 2006 Dibner Award by the Society for the History of Technology.
Mr Rooney speaks widely on the history of timekeeping and has published numerous articles on the subject. He is currently writing a book on Ruth Belville, the Greenwich time lady. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and a Member of the Institute of Physics:he claims that he is never, ever late for work. |
