Meeting Details
Speaker: Dr Patricia Fara
Biography: University of Cambridge
Date: Rescheduled to 2020-2021 Programme owing to Covid-19 restrictions
Time: 8:00 pm
Venue: Studio Theatre
Description: Instead of completing his education with a Grand Tour of Europe, Joseph Banks travelled around the world with James Cook. An expert on botany, he became President of London’s Royal Society for 42 years, where he exerted great influence on British scientific and imperial policy. This lecture supplements that conventional success story by discussing how he was satirised.
